/ Trump’s victory was 50 years in the making. Since Nixon’s defeat, the right-wing authoritarians (RWAs) have been consolidating power. Now they’ve taken the White House and the Congress. Through a media machine they’ve captured the hearts and minds of more than 40% of the pop.
/ Through gerrymandering and population distribution, they can win national elections without majorities. The Resistance thinks they can beat the RWAs and regain control of America by proving that Trump and the RWAs stole the election through a series of crimes.
/ I worry that they misunderstand and underestimate the opposition. Bannon, Prince, Trump, etc. don’t think working with Putin is anti-American. They think they’re acting in America’s best interest. They think stupid libs are ruining America so extreme measures were justified.
/ They think the Russian oligarchy is a model government and an improvement over the gridlock and messiness of what American politics has become. They think conservatives helped ruin America by compromising with the evil libs. I picked myself up on Nov. 10th with a purpose:
/ combat ignorance with education. So I’m working on a series of overlapping biographies for young readers (middle school-high school) tracing American constitutional history. The idea is that if young readers starts with Book 1, Alexander Hamilton, and read to Book 6, they’ll
/ understand how our Constitution evolved and the nation changed. They’ll understand the strength of the backlash against diversity. They’ll understand how we got to this point. BTW, Andrew Jackson won reelection in 1828—because the intellectuals continued to underestimate him
*reelection in 1832.
