4/ … income levels tend to make people less authoritarian, Over the past 20 years, party membership sorted itself by personality type. Most G.W. Bush voters were authoritarian. Personality differences make it harder for the 2 sides to engage in dialogue.
5/ Authoritarian moments arise when enough people are threatened by change. Trump’s election was an “authoritarian” moment. If these theories are true, the clash between Dems (non authoritarians) and Repubs (authoritarians) is likely to become more “hostile and warlike.”
6/ not in the article but important: The R coalition also includes libertarians & Koch money (radical capitalistic right) who want to abolish government & whose interests are aligned with such authoritarian movements as the KKK, who also want to abolish federal power.
